Good design leaves room to breathe.

Space is part of the message. Bringing related elements closer and giving separate ideas room helps people find their way. Before adding one more detail, try giving the important things a little more space.

Space is part of the message. When related elements sit closer together and separate ideas are given room, people find their way without having to think about it. Whitespace isn’t empty — it’s the pause that lets everything else be heard.

Start with less

Before adding one more detail, try removing one. A heading, a border, a second colour. Most layouts get clearer the moment something leaves, and the pieces that remain start to carry more weight.

Let rhythm do the work

Pick a small set of spacing values and repeat them. Consistent gaps create a rhythm the eye learns quickly, so the moments where you break it — a larger pause before a new section, a tighter group of labels — actually mean something.

Next time a page feels crowded, don’t reach for a new element. Give the important things a little more space and see what happens.

Have something in mind?

I’d love to hear about your project.
